Øystein Fevang - short biography

Øystein Fevang, born 1963 in Horten, Norway, started his musical career as keyboardplayer in different bands from 1980. From 1987-1992 he studied singing at Østlandets Musikkonservatorium, and in 1988 he started conducting choirs. He recieved his master degree of choral conducting at the Norwegian academy of Music in 1995, where he was engaged as a lecturer in choir conducting from the same year. He has also studied choir conducting with Alexej Malij in Moscow and Anders Eby in Stockholm, as well as singing with Oren Brown, New York.

As a baritone singer he has a broad repertoar from classical to entertainment songs, and has been engaged as a soloist for works as Mahler's "Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen", Mozart's requiem and Faure's requiem. He has been engaged as soloist with Norwigian Radio Orchestra (KORK), Oslo Philharmonic Chamber Choir and legendary male choir Gli Scapoli. After years of conducting different amateur choirs, including 8 years with lots of touring with The Norwegian Seamen`s Choir, the road was set for conducting a more professional level of choir singing.

From the founding in 1996 and for the next 10 years, Øystein Fevang was conductor of the chamber choir Ensemble 96. With 4 CD-releases, numerous premiere performances, and emphasis on contemporary music, the choir soon became amongst Norway's most repected ensembles. The latest CD released from Ensemble 96; "Immortal Nystedt", was nominated for Grammy Awards both for Best Choral Performance (Øystein Fevang) and Best Surround Album (Morten Lindberg/Hans Peter L'Orange). From 1999-2004 he was also conductor of the female Bærum Vokalensemble, who also contributed on the Grammy-nominated CD "Immortal Nystedt".

Øystein Fevang is from 2006 engaged as chorus master for the Oslo Philharmonic Choir, and has been engaged as choir-teacher at Rud sixth form college in Bærum outside of Oslo since 1996.
